Product Lines

Gravis Skate Shoes

I really enjoy skateboarding for one, but Gravis skate shoes I have always enjoyed having on my feet no matter what I'm doing. Their product line is geared towards skateboard fanatics, but a few models in their line "the Dylan", pro-model shoe for Dylan Rieder, is an example how Gravis has tried something new for the target market of skateboarders. Dylan Rieder for one, has always seemed keen on wearing his classy shoes while skating.... this style caters towards skaters and those who are just looking for some classy kicks... check the video

Change Up

Change Up
I was watching old episodes of my favorite TV show, The Wire, and there was a scene that directly related to things we have been talking about in discussions like marketing strategies and positioning. In this clip from the Wire, the notorious drug dealing crew under Avon Barksdale have hit a road block in selling their narcotics. The cocaine and dope they're getting wholesaled to them, has decreased in quality, and the fiends are starting to take their business else where. With the same quality drugs, the dealers decide to change the name of their crack, change the color of the viles, and create a competive market amongst the project towers. They reposition their product to trick fiends and keep sales up. Good Stuff

Cognitive Dissonance
todays topic-- introspective look at purchases through my life, I experienced a lot of dissonance going through the process of buying my vehicle, I ended up buying a truck because I wanted the utility, yet i grappled with the known fact that gas was going to be more expensive if I drove a truck instead of a smaller sedan or hatchback.

So, as I was rummaging through the cupboards late on saturday night, I noticed this advertisement on the Keebler cookie packaging...instant sparks of thought regarding what I had been reading in the textbook hours earlier...

Someone please remind me of what this represents, when 2 firms like Nabisco and the American Red Cross team up together?

McDonalds

Wellll, first post....
Before knowing the mechanics of marketing or anything related...I watched a new stand-up performance from one of my favorite comedians, Jim Gaffigan. I enjoy comedians that can make the small things in life gut-wrenchingly funny without the use of curse words, screaming and yelling. Anyway, this segment of his performance, he talks about how there are many "McDonalds" in life that people get sucked into (ie. TV shows, other food products). Got me thinking about marketing and how people in business and entertainment are experts in the connection between producers and consumers... check out the video, its a good laugh....
